IMERETI REGION - is situated in the western part of the country. It is one of the ancient parts of Georgia and is rich in cultural and historical monuments:
GELATI MONASTERY –is situated near the city of Kutaisi. It is most important cultural and educational center of the middle centuries. The monastery was established by Georgian king David Agmashenebeli in 12-th century. Near the monastery there is Gelati Academy - a cultural-educational center, which was called to be the second Jerusalem in the east. Almost all kings of the united Georgia are buried in Gelati monastery. PIC. GELATI
MOTSAMETA monastery is situated near the city of Kutaisi and was built in 13-th century.
BAGRATI cathedral – was built in 10-th century by the first king of the united Georgia Bagrati-3. The cathedral still remains its grandiosity.
